ARTISTS ABOUT THEIR CREATION TIRA:
Tira is a game about the curiosity of establishing new limits in your own world. It is drawing limits for the pleasure of breaking them.

Tira is sincerity, it is the complicity of the looks.

Tira is transformation, a string becomes everything: the kiss of the grandmother you hated so much when you were little, the caress of someone who is no longer there, the realisation that you are not the woman they expected you to be, but in the end it’s not so bad…

ARTISTS AND THEIR BIOGRAPHY:
Maci got to know the circus at the age of 23. She discovered it, saw it and fell in love with it. She attended the circus school Vertigo in Turin and later she simultaneously studied at Le Lido, a circus school in Toulouse and at the Jean Jaurès University. In 2022/2023 he worked on the creation of the 27th Circ d’Hivern, “fam” of the Ateneu de Nou Barris (Barcelona).

Since she was a child, Carla has been attracted to the arts. She is born in Valladolid, Spain. She studied at the University of Fine Arts in Salamanca. Later she enrolled in the circus school Le Lido, motivated by juggling and the body as a tool for emotional language. Carla developed her work in Olot (Spain) with Iris Ziordia, known for her innovative approach to juggling and emotion.

La Barque Acide is a company born in 2018 in Toulouse, with. 9 artists the 25th promotion of Lido. The company made its debut at La Grainerie in 2021 with the show “The end is Nigh”.

Three new projects are currently being created: “Croquette corps cornichon” by Stephanie and Camille Bontout-Mouat, “Pacemaker” by Marcelo Nunes and “Tira” by Carla Carnerero Huertas and Maria Celeste Funghi.

Artist in residence programme is created to provide different artists support for creation and at the same time creating a local contemporary circus programme through production support and education.

The exhibition Heard by the Deep focuses on the topic of the sea, its (human and non-human) communities and the related environmental urgencies – as devastating as they are imperceptible to our human senses.

Featured artists work both with concrete scientific marine data – its usage, production, and visualization – and new, speculative, imaginative scenarios, making our comprehension of the sea environment experiential and emphasizing human pollution of the marine ecosystem. While the experimental approach and multidisciplinary knowledge production underline the common topic of the programme, the majority of the projects presented here share a strong focus on noise pollution or sound in general. Apart from being the main media for communication in the marine biosphere, sound waves travel through seawater much faster and louder than through air. The effects of anthropogenic noise on marine life and the underwater world, therefore, come with even more dangerous and long-lasting consequences. In these artworks and research, the sound is more than a medium for communication and expression; in affirming new ways of coexistence that can redesign the hierarchies within the variety of sea inhabitants, the featured works bring a strong emphasis on sound in re-thinking the materiality of the sea as well as its semantics.

From the microscale of the algae to the macroscale of noise pollution cartography, the underwater world truly is a sonic one.

Heard by the Deep program was created and produced by KONTEJNER within the international project A Sea Change focused on interdisciplinary and intermedia arts, artistic and curatorial research dealing with a wide range of sea-related subjects such as marine ecosystems, the well-being of coastal populations, blue economy, and bioacoustics. The program is co-curated together with project partners MOMus – Experimental Center for the Arts (GR), NeMe (CY), and Quo Artis Foundation (ES), and realized with the support of local partners MedILS – Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences and Multimedia Cultural Centre, Split.

„Open stage“ is an event for creative performers to present their artistic creation in different performance arts, especially in contemporary circus category, with performance duration up to 10 minutes.

Event will take place 21.05.2023. starting at evening hours in the outside area of Dom mladih (Youth Center), Split.

Application deadline for performers is 10.05.2023.

Application conditions:
— performance should be from the field of performing arts
— performance duration up to 10 minutes
— performers should be older than 16
— it is possible to performer as an individual or as a group

Accommodation and travel expenses equal to the price of the bus ticket are provided for performers coming from outside of Split. The number of provided accommodation is limited.

Objava 10 YEARS FESTIVAL OF INDEPENDENT CULTURE – PLATFORMAT! pojavila se prvi puta na Dom mladih Split.

Tumult is a collective of four tightwire artists. The collective works on relearning and redefining diverse ways of collaborating on the tightwire. The challenge is to work with four people on a single wire simultaneously. The fragile and limited space becomes a moving ground unpredictable in its reactions: How to work together when each movement might take away the other’s balance? How to help each other? When does help become a burden to someone else? How to cooperate? What can we do, if we decide to trust? The emergency exit will be the fall.

The fragile space on the tightwire and a minimalistic scenography highlights the interactions of the artists. Paint will be used to uncover the traces of our relationships and experiences, leaving behind a memento of the past. A first try-out, a blank canvas to be explored.

BIOGRAPHY:
Louisa Wruck works as a tight wire artist for Le Cirque du Docteur Paradi – Les petits bonnets and for Squarehead Production – the exhibition project. At the moment she creates her first solo TwentyNine a project accompanied by La Compagnie d’Elles and Yaelle Antoine. She is equally part of the tight wire collective under construction Tumult. Since graduating from Le Lido in 2016 she performed in short term projects or as replacement for La Groupe Bekkrell, Cie Mauvais Coton, Ampersand Variations, Les Tenaces, and Cie SingulièreS. Starting in 2020, she is now part of the binom teaching tight wire in ESAC-TO, Toulouse.

Marina Cherry squeaks, zooms, and tiptoes through a micro-space. Fragmenting pieces of a spunky personal universe puddle over the stage for her solo performance, Only Bones v1.6.

Intriguingly engulfing, sporadically disturbing, this quirky conglomeration creates a mishmash of corporal and cerebral manipulations- a follow-up project to the original concept Only Bones (v.1.0) by Thomas Monckton. Bursting the bubbles of banality, in a balance between theatrical and physical, Marina nudges the limits, researching innovation amongst extreme constraints, using only one light, it is a maximization of the minimal.

Only Bones Project is a minimalist physical theatre and sparse-video performance project. The concept based on the original play by Tom Mockton** continues its transformation by having selected artists create their own versions of the play within a given concept. Using uniformed and restrictive parameters, the selected artists create their own unique performances that follow a similar aesthetic. The guidelines are as follows: only one light, no narrative, no set design, no props, no text, in a limited space. In this way, artists are left only to their own possibilities to create their own world within the set concept.

In parallel to the live performance, these same solo performers are invited to create video projects, placing their exemplary physicality into sparse environments, highlighting our human connection/disconnection to the world.

ABOUT MARINA CHERRY
Marina is a contortionist/acro-dancer and graduate of ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque) in Brussels after starting off her professional circus formation at ENC (École Nationale de Cirque) in Montreal. Originally from Montana in the US, she is now based in Stockholm, Sweden. Marina is currently in the process of creating her other solo project NINGEN (including both a performance and a full-length show) that will officially premiere at Festival Courant D’Airs in Brussels.

Thom Monckton
Thom is mostly a creator of non-verbal theatre with a bias towards comic work. He is the co-artistic director of Kallo Collective, a Helsinki-based company that produces contemporary circus and physical theatre shows as well as NousNous Festival, an annual festival of physical comedy.
Born in New Zealand, Thom trained in the circus in Christchurch and physical theatre in Paris and has been loosely based in Europe since 2006. His solo shows have toured internationally to around 20 different countries.
Performance is part of the Artist in residence program. Artist in residence program is created to provide support for different artists to create and at the same time develop local contemporary circus program through production support and education. Program is supported by the Foundation Kultura nova, City of Split and Ministry of Culture.

The first part — “Salto Mortale” presents the author’s personal view of the art of the circus, as the struggle of man and gravity, sleep and reality, the projection of the mind and bodily limitations, the impossible and possible. “Salto Mortale” tries to conjure up a series of situations from which, through collage text formats, audio-video effects and vertical choreography, the marginal situations of circus artists’ work are shown. Through the five stations of this journey, the authors tell some of their own, some of others and some imaginary stories. They place each story in space and tie it to a prop close to the artist who is the story; mobile home, chest, wall, curtain, rope …

“Salto Mortale” had its premiere in Zagreb, through 6 consecutive performances in March 2020. In 5 residency days in Split, in a secret location, the authors / performers are adapting the performance for the exterior in which they will perform it for the Split audience.

The play will be performed six times, on July 29 and 30, 2020 at 9:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m.

Each of the performances of the play “Horror House Project” is performed in front of 5 spectators who, together with the performers, go through all the steps of this play.
Given the joint stay in a smaller performance area, and in accordance with epidemiological measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease, the group can only consist of people who normally socialize, live or work together — family, friends, colleagues, … Please to follow this rule and act responsibly.
The price of a group ticket is HRK 250.00.

The project (working title: “My Death and I”) is a research started by Petra Najman in June 2020 inspired by a period of inability to engage in circus due to a fall from a trapeze and a broken arm. Using trapeze and puppetry, Petra gives us her vision of death…
